Our story

Donati Luxury Tower was born in the heart of Florence’s historic centre, from one of the city’s oldest medieval towers. Its origins date back to the 11th century, when two towers – Torre Ricci and Torre Donati – stood proudly above the Florentine rooftops, less than a metre apart and owned by rival families.

The Donati family, to which Gemma Donati (Dante Alighieri’s wife) belonged, is one of the most renowned in the city’s history.

During the 13th century, the two towers were joined under the control of a consortium of powerful families. A symbol of power and a witness to almost a thousand years of Florentine history, the Tower has seen illustrious names pass by, including Dante Alighieri, Filippo Brunelleschi, Arnolfo di Cambio and Lorenzo Ghiberti.

Today, Donati Luxury Tower welcomes travellers from all over the world in search of an exclusive experience in the heart of Florence, where history, art and architecture blend into a timeless atmosphere.

The restoration

Two and a half years of bespoke works restored splendour to the centuries-old stones, integrating Italian marbles, green technology and design details. This is how twelve extra-luxury suites were created, where the allure of the past meets the refinement of contemporary design.
